I translated a brief overview of the books of the Bible by Johannes Brenz (1499–1570) for the weekly devotional. Here’s what Brenz has to say about the Book of Psalms.

The Book of Psalms
Now among the prophets who declared in their preaching and writings this promise concerning Christ which was given to David, David himself is the foremost in his psalter. For in these psalms, or spiritual songs, he gloriously praises the divinity and humanity of Christ, His suffering, death, resurrection, dominion, kingdom, and majesty. Since such common songs were publicly sung everywhere, it cannot be otherwise than that Christ must have been everywhere well known as far as the people of Israel dwelt. For although the psalms are not all of one and the same content and meaning, and not all sing explicitly and clearly of Christ, nevertheless, in the entire book of Psalms, Christ alone, our Lord, is its most significant and foremost center.
