After taking us through Jesus’ prayer in John 17, Esaias Heidenreich now brings us through Jesus’ journey to the Garden of Gethsemane with His disciples. This prayer is taken from the weekly devotional, where we follow Christ through His passion in prayer.
O beneficent Lord Jesus, King of all grace and mercy, who after Your glorious farewell prayer, went with Your dear disciples across the Kidron Valley at the beginning of Your bitter and cruel suffering and death. On this journey, You instructed and warned them of future distress, stumbling, and danger, and furnished them with bountiful comfort. Be also our guide today, for we are caught in such manifold danger and misery, and in this life, we must walk in pure darkness and hardship. Speak to us, who are weak and erring, with Your earnest shepherd’s voice, that no offense, cross, anguish, or need may separate us from You. And as often as we fall, raise us up again through the power of Your Word. Amen.
