A Prayer for the Feast of St. Bartholomew

Thank you all for your support and for subscribing. In case you’re new here, welcome to Treasures from the Lutheran Church! I created this Substack to support the translation of Lutheran devotional literature—such as prayers, sermons, hymns, meditations, and commentaries—into English.
Here’s how it works: rather than translating a whole book behind the scenes and publishing it, I’m releasing material serially as a weekly devotional to paid subscribers. This allows an interested community to fund the translation of these works into English while enjoying the treasures each week in a way that fosters patient reflection and meditation.
Moreover, this crowdfunded approach also affords me the opportunity to devote regular time to this project, which would otherwise be impossible, or at least very slow, given my other jobs, my studies as a full-time PhD student, and my responsibilities as a husband and father of three.
I’m currently translating prayers on the Church year, prayers that go through the Passion narrative of Jesus, prayers on daily life, an overview of the Bible, hymns on the Catechism, and sermons on the apocryphal book known as Sirach, sometimes called Ecclesiasticus. I send out my progress each week on Saturdays as a full devotional, and I also take excerpts from this to share with all my subscribers, so that everyone can benefit from and be encouraged by this work, which is what I’m doing in this post. One of the books I’m translating consists of prayers based on the Gospel readings for the Sundays and Feast Days of the Church year. Since today is the Feast of St. Bartholomew, here is a prayer from the full devotional:
